On March 25 2019, Tarboo Ridge Coalition challenged the legality of Jefferson County’s changes to the development code regarding shooting facilities. The changes open up 76% of the land in unincorporated Jefferson County to siting outdoor gun ranges of unlimited scale and intensity, undercuts our rural way of life, and puts into question our community’s a long-standing commitment to agriculture, timberlands, small family businesses, and local enjoyment of peace and tranquility.
The state’s Growth Management Hearings Board (GMHB) will hear County and TRC attorneys make arguments for and against these ordinances on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 beginning at 9:00 AM in the commissioners’ chambers, located on the lower level of the courthouse. The GMHB will then issue a ruling within 30 days. No public testimony will be taken but it’s essential that we make a strong showing to demonstrate the importance of this issue to the larger Jefferson County community. Please attend in person if you are able.
Given the county-wide interest and importance of this hearing, TRC has requested that the hearing be livestreamed over the internet on the County’s AV Capture system.
